Markus, sleep plays a very special role in your life. Why?
I have always been interested in the question of why every living being has to spend a large part of its life sleeping - a stage in which you are completely at the mercy of the external environment and which at first glance looks as if you are doing nothing. But if you take a closer look at sleep, you will see what an important role it plays in our health and well-being and how many processes, such as our eating habits, are influenced by our sleeping habits. This really fascinates me and was also the driving force for me to spend years working on this topic and, on the basis of the knowledge I gained, to create the brand
What are your sleep areas of expertise?
In my scientific career, I have studied how our sleep is regulated and why we need to sleep at all. I have also been very interested in the effects of exercise, media and eating habits on sleep and have conducted several studies on this. Our study on media consumption and sleep even made it into the New York Times.
